Research
I am a physical metallurgist specializing in the advanced characterization of fine microstructures, from the submicrometre scale down to the atomic scale, using transmission electron microscopy and related techniques. The overall objective of my research is to design and develop advanced materials by establishing a comprehensive understanding of the relationships between processing, microstructure, and functional properties.
My current research activities focus on three main areas: (1) Characterization and interface engineering of advanced metal matrix (nano-)composites (diamond/metal, graphite/metal, nano-TiBâ‚‚/metal, etc.) to optimize their mechanical and thermal properties; (2) Investigation of metastable, anisotropic microstructures and defects (porosity, interfaces, solidification defects, etc.) in alloys and composites produced by advanced manufacturing processes (laser powder bed fusion, cold spray, etc.) and subsequent post-processing treatments, including diamond/metal composites, nano-TiBâ‚‚/metal composites, and martensitic stainless steels such as 17-4PH; (3) Atomic-scale characterization of local structural, chemical, and property transformations in complex multiphase materials, including the study of ordered nanoprecipitates and chemical short-range order (CSRO) phenomena.
