Novel concept of antimicrobial packaging polymers
In the area of food contact a new generation of packaging -Controlled Release Packagings (CRPs)- can overcome the limits of conventional methods ( consisting in direct blending the conservative compounds in the food with conservation effects limited in time) . The aim of this research is to elaborate novel CRPs based on bioactive packaging polymers (P) using cyclodextrin (CD) as carriers for antimicrobial molecules (A) Two elaboration ways are undertaken, a casting method, and a melt extrusion process. The goal is to determine the best method taking into account the ecological parameters (cycle life of the process), antimicrobial activity, physicochemical and mechanical properties of the films in relation to food industry requirements.
This research is financed by the region Nord Pas de Calais and sponsored by the MAUD cluster (in France). This research is integrated into a broader regional operation called "Interactions characterizations and kinetic transfers at the interfaces in food processes".
